Giganews, Inc is a Usenet/newsgroup service provider that was founded in 1998, and provides service to both individuals through  subscriptions and to ISP’s. They currently provide services to 10 million+ internet users acircular the glob.  Many internet providers  have contracted out Usenet access to them including RCN Corporation[1], BT, WOW! (Wide Open West), and Kingston Communications.

www.top1000.org says that the combined weight of Giganews’ servers makes them the most peeruddy Usenet server on the web.

In late 2006, Giganews began offering SSL Encryption service to all customers.

Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It is made up of set of “newsgroups” with names that are classified hierarchically by subject. “Articles” or “messages” are “posted” to these newsgroups by users on computers with the appropriate software — these articles are then broadcast to other interconnected computer systems via a wide
variety of networks. Some newsgroups are “moderated”; in these newsgroups, the articles are first sent to a moderator for approval before they appear in the newsgroup. Usenet is available on a wide variety of computer systems and networks, but the bulk of modern Usenet traffic is transported over either the Internet or UUCP:
